Structured Cabling, Containment & Wi-Fi Project - Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land Limited (RBSL)
TDJC Data carried out a large Project for this Company as a third-party sub-contracting Through a larger company. The project lasted 8months of the year 2022-2023.
Client:
Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land Limited (RBSL)
Sector:
Defence, Advanced manufacturing, & Engineering Sector
Location:
Telford, Shropshire, UK
Project Overview:
A customer site was required an upgrade to its network infrastructure to support increasing data demands and accommodate future growth. The project involved the installation of Cat6 Ethernet cables for local network connectivity and secrete network, new fibre optic cables for backbone connectivity, and the implementation of new containment systems and cabinets to organize and protect the cables effectively. They also were up grading their Wi-Fi Units.
Key Objectives:
1. Improve network performance and reliability by upgrading to Cat6 Ethernet cables.
2. Enhance bandwidth and scalability with the installation of new fibre optic backbone cables.
3. Implement a robust containment system to organize and protect the cables while ensuring ease of maintenance.
4. Minimize disruption to ongoing operations during installation and ensure compliance with safety standards.
Project Phases:
Assessment and Planning:
TDJC Data conducted a thorough assessment of the existing network infrastructure, including cable routes, equipment locations, and capacity requirements.
We then collaborated with stakeholders to define project objectives, timelines, and budget constraints, and developed a detailed project plan outlining the installation procedures, cable routes, and containment strategies.
Preparation:
With our preferred suppliers we procured high-quality Cat6 Ethernet cables, fibre optic cables, and containment materials suitable for the customer’s requirements, and prepared the necessary tools, equipment, and safety gear required for installation. We also worked with the client to produce and schedule the installation activities to minimize disruption to the client’s operations and ensure compliance with safety regulations.
Installation of Cat6 and Fiber Optic Cables:
We deployed experienced technicians to install Cat6 Ethernet cables within the client’s site, adhering to industry standards and best practices for cable management and termination.
Laid new fibre optic cables for backbone connectivity, following predetermined routes, and ensuring proper handling and protection against environmental hazards, and on completion conducted thorough testing and validation of cable connections to verify performance and adherence to specifications.
Installation of New Containment:
Implemented a new containment system to organize and protect the installed cables effectively.
Installed cable trays, conduits, and raceways to route and secure the cables along designated pathways, and deployed cable management accessories such as cable ties, labels, and cable markers to facilitate ease of maintenance and troubleshooting.
The Before & After
Integration and Testing:
We also integrated the newly installed cables with existing networking equipment, including switches, routers, and servers and were involved in racking and stacking of this equipment.
Documentation and Handover:
TDJC Data generated detailed documentation outlining the cable layout, containment design, network configurations, and maintenance procedures. These were handed over on completion of the project to the client, providing ongoing support and assistance as needed.
Outcomes and Benefits:
This project has improved network performance and reliability with upgraded Cat6 Ethernet cables and new fibre optic backbone connectivity, providing enhanced scalability and bandwidth to accommodate future growth and technological advancements.
The cable infrastructure is now protected with the implementation of a robust containment system, reducing the risk of cable damage, and simplifying maintenance efforts, this will also minimize disruption to customer operations during installation while ensuring compliance with safety standards and project objectives.
After the installation we carried out a Wi-Fi survey to prove the concept and the coverage of the signals.
Through meticulous planning, execution, and documentation, the installation of Cat6 and fibre optic cables, along with new containment, at the client’s site successfully achieved its objectives, providing a reliable and scalable network infrastructure to support the customer’s business operations.
